Four Corners Adventure

Back Story Tours offers new insights and roads to explore in this classic Four Corners Adventure. 1880’s Durango was not that much different from today’s Durango, home to the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad. You’ll ride 45 miles on this spectacular railroad line to the dirt streets of Silverton, set at 9300 feet high in the San Juan Mountains. You’ll also get the chance to see The Little Switzerland of America, Ouray, embraced by 12,000 foot peaks all around its natural hot springs and spectacular Cascade Falls.

Mesa Verde, created by Theodore Roosevelt in 1906 and the first National Park dedicated to the works of man rather than nature, is another full day exploration we’ll make, climbing ladders and descending them into kivas as we learn about the Ancestral Puebloans. From the Four Corners National Monument where four states and two Indian nations meet to the sandstone spires and enchantment of Monument Valley Tribal Park, our journey continues into the heart of Navajo Land. We’ll explore the heart of the Hollywood Western as we take a jeep trip to John Ford Point, the Weeping Eye and other legendary film locations in Monument Valley. Returning through Comb Ridge, the 110 mile long Sandstone Spine, we’ll stop at historic Bluff, Utah along the San Juan River. We’ll learn about the hardships the Mormons faced along the Honeymoon Trail. Then we’ll travel to the spectacular Hovenweep National Monument on the Great Sagebrush Plain. We’ll hike through Hovenweep’s lonely towers and listen to theories on why the perfect towers were constructed a millennium ago.

Back Story Tours’ Four Corners Adventure drives, hikes, trains and jeeps you where the story of the West comes alive around every corner.
